OVERVIEW

Problem

After going through the process of finding housing and interviewing students on campus, we realized students were having trouble with connecting with people to find compatible livingmates. It's vital to find people who blend well with desired livng habits and schedules when trying to balance a busy lifestyle juggling academics and extra cirriculars for college students.

Goal

Design a platform that helps unite students to finding compatible living mates with similar habits to create a cohesive living environment. This app would expedite the stressful process of finding people to live with for their college experience.

USER RESEARCH

We conducted a survey with 20 responses and initiated interviews with 5 undergraduate students from all classes ranging from 1st to 4th years. Our data led to find common pain points that popped up to solve in with our designs and give direction to our project.

Persona

From our surveys and interviews, we created a persona that represents who would use this product. It gave us insight with compiling pain points and frustrations to address.

USER TESTING

Feedback

Using our mid-fidelity wireframes we tested our app with 10 students who gave us valuable insights on areas we could improve our product. Theses were a couple of suggestions that were included after the sessions.

  • Having a toggle switch that makes the profile available and hidden would be useful if the user has found a current match with a roommate they chose to live with.

  • Creating a section that helps users find local apartments and listings available. It would be a useful feature to gage prices for different layouts from the different sectors of Davis to live at.

REFLECTION

What I Learned

  • It was a very intuitive experience working with a wonderful team coming from different backgrounds of approaching a user centered problem.
  • Managing time with different schedules and maintaining clear communication when making vital design decisions
  • Involving gender neutral language to have an inclusive interface when building a questionare

Something to Improve On

  • Implementing more user testing throughout the process to collect useful feedback to implement in our product
  • Asking deeper questions that could help define the pain points that users feel with the issue

Moving Forward

  • Potentially working with a software development team to turn this project into a usable application for UC Davis students
  • Collaborating with student housing to have more data on their process with cohesive living pairings
